“Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning…then you also will abide in the Son and in the Father…the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.” (1 John 2,24-27)

Abiding rightly is the secret of faithfulness and hence of strength. It means to stick with, to cling to, while the choice remains to leave or abandon. We have the precious gospel planted in our souls – the world tries to coax, or force it out with seductive promises or dire threats to our lives.

Don’t leave the harbour of the Lord: abide, anchored to that Rock of salvation. And if you’ve let go – go back and make fast again. Christmas is coming.
