Israel
was constantly oppressed by many world superpowers like the Babylonian empire. In
Chapter 46:8-11, Isaiah foretells that the enemy will fall. Isaiah also appeals
to God’s people:

“Remember
this and stand firm, recall it to mind, you transgressors, remember the former
things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none
like me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things
not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my
purpose”.

God
eventually uses the Medes and the Persians to bring an end to the enemy and
their oppression. Israel is to remember that their God is the one true God. They
can take great comfort in knowing that all that he providentially allowed, is
to accomplish His purpose.

How
blessed we are to serve the Lord Jesus Christ, who uses all things for His
divine purpose.
