Looking at the Jehovah's Witness Cult

Dear Church Family

If you've walked around enough in town you will have met a Jehovah's Witness or Mormon evangelist at work! Perhaps you were even given a watchtower tract which looked nice and talked about all the good things in "God's" Kingdom. Just as we've been evangelising the Truth, these cults are evangelising error, and leading many people to hell. Do you know what you believe? And would you be able to defend your belief to such a person? This is a vital issue in our church today, and therefore our next corporate bible study will look at the JW cult and hopefully you can get better equipped to deal with those interactions. In the mean time, here (click) seems to be a good resource on the Internet for studying the cult

Don't miss it! You'll really miss out. 28 July, 6h30pm at the church.

The corporate bible study is a monthly event where all the bible study groups in the church get together on the last Tuesday of every month. This is not only for the usual bible study goers, but for the entire church! We'd love to see you there. Tea and Coffee to be served afterwards, for those who don't need to be getting home.

The Real Baptism

We are so excited to see two people going through the waters of baptism tomorrow morning. Although it will be freezing (no heating elements) our hearts are going to be on fire! Both people are from very different backgrounds. One, a middle aged white man from a Dutch Reformed background, and the other a young black lady from a non-denominational church - I can guess more charismatic.

When is someone ready for baptism? When they're saved! So how do you know whether you've been saved? Don't look back to a moment in time when you made some sort of commitment. Where are you today? Who are you trusting today, and where is your hope today? Is it in the Lord Jesus Christ alone? Then be baptised!

It was saddening to hear a mormon friend tell me that he's been baptised. Yes, he was baptised, but it had nothing to do with Jesus Christ - even if his church is called the "Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints". My heart aches. Sometimes I dream about unsaved friends, and my passionate pleas with them to seek the Truth. Last night I awoke in the middle of such a dream, and was compelled to pray for the particular man.

What gives me such hope is that the young lady being baptised tomorrow had determined in her own mind to live a self-worshiping life - and God still broke through her walls and saved her. He was gracious enough to show her the depths of what she was pursuing. She is a different person today. It took 1 day. New Life. Oh that our friends and family would find it too. And that those who were getting baptised would be experiencing the real thing. Let's never give up praying for the Kingdom to come.
