The working of the Holy Spirit is mainly in conviction. This can be with irresistible power, as in Charles Finney’s ministry:
“There were great outbursts of emotionalism during these meetings. One woman fell speechless and lay in a trance for sixteen hours, ‘emerging with a song of deliverance upon her lips’. One man came to church armed to kill Finney and during the sermon he fell from his seat, crying, ‘I am sinking into hell.’ Even the strongest nerved men were swept before the Spirit’s power to be rendered so weak that friends carried them home.”
But for Yvonne de Beer He has been gently persuasive, and today we rejoice to share her witness in baptism. What is He whispering to you, either to do, or to give up? Listen and obey, for therein is glory in Christ!
